After years of showing that nothing was out of reach; no matter the challenge; leading by example and facing adversity with a smile, Rose Marie Haliburton Hornberger left behind her family and friends on February 18, 2015.
Marie was born on September 17, 1937 in Harlingen, Texas to James Arthur Haliburton and Clara Bell Woodward. She was the middle of eight children
and grew up in Honey Grove, Texas and Jacksonville, Florida.
Marie met her husband of 45 years, Carl Hornberger, in Washington D.C., where she worked for the Washington Post.
After marrying on May 1, 1958, they moved back to Texas.
Marie spent over 40 years in the Austin banking community where she mentored and had an impact on an immeasurable number of lives.
She touched so many lives in a positive way. Everyone who ever met her was thankful they had. Marie was kind and cared about everyone.
She just went out of her way to help other people.
A dedicated animal lover, she never met a stray that she didn't like. She spent many years caring for neighborhood animals.
Despite the ongoing physical challenges she faced throughout her entire life, she never complained about her health or her pain or
let any physical challenge keep her from achieving her goals. No matter what she faced, she did it with a smile.
A faithful wife for over 45 years and a dedicated mother and mentor who set the ultimate example.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Carl Hornberger. She leaves behind her daughter
Carla James and son-in-law Ray James of Pflugerville. Her sister Lillian Haliburton and brother Bill Haliburton
of Jacksonville Florida. Brother and sister-in-law Frank and Betty Ivy of Austin and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend it thanks to all the caring people of Gentiva hospice, Visiting Angels and Fairway Vista.
A memorial service will be held on March 7, 2015 at All Faith's at 11am. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:30am.
