Rudolph Lege

December 20, 1960 — April 15, 2015

North Austin Location

Rudolph James Lege, Rudy, passed away in the early morning on April 15th, 2015 in Austin, Texas. He was 54 years old.

He was first and foremost a musician and artist. Rudy was born on December 20th, 1960 in Port Arthur, Texas and then moved to Houston at age nine. He was a graduate of The High School for Performing and Visual Arts, class of 1979 where he studied bassoon and performed orchestral music and jazz. Soon after, he moved to Austin where he worked at The Omelettry Restaurant by day, as a musician as he could, and soaked up the Austin music scene. His passion for music was broad and expressed in the love of playing, collecting and restoring woodwind instruments. He recently completed a Certificate in Band Instrument Repair Technology at Renton Technical College in Seattle, WA.

Rudy was a loving and generous son, brother, uncle and friend who had a knack for finding just the right gift and was always ready for an impromptu jam session and silliness. His art, which he would give to family, included abstract and realistic paintings. We will miss his special energy and spirit with all our hearts.

Rudy is survived by his parents: Margaret Minor Chelette and Gene Whitten-LegAC.; step-parents: Leo Chelette and Pat Whitten-LegAC.; siblings: Gene LegAC., David LegAC., Joan LegAC.-Krebs and husband Joseph Krebs, Joey LegAC. and wife Cindy LegAC., and Jon Whitten-LegAC.; and nieces and nephews: Mychal LegAC., Anna LegAC., Jacqueline LegAC., Zachary Krebs, Veronique Krebs, and Julia Krebs . He is also survived by many close friends and a large extended family with special mention of Stephanie Horner Rainbolt and his Godfather Rudolph LegAC., Jr. We are all very thankful for the care of the Seton Hospital on 38th St. in Austin and the ICU staff in particular. Their care for Rudy and our family was compassionate and professional. We appreciated their information, tolerance, and support during this very difficult time.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3617 Milam Street, Houston, TX at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 11, 2015, and the burial service will follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches, TX the same day. Family is suggesting, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, HAAM (https://www.myhaam.org/donate/).
