August 12th 1942 she was born Rosa Pearl Young, but everyone called her Sally. Raised in the aftermath of the Great depression and the beginning of the second world war, Sally was raised by her parents in times of plenty, and by her aunts Ollie, Effie and Josie from time to time. The 7th of 11 children, Sally spent a lifetime of caring for and commitment to her family. Sally married and gave birth to her 3 children : First and second were twin daughters, followed by a son two years after. Sally raised her children mostly in the Austin area. She enjoyed the water, spending many weekends on a lake or river. Sally was an accomplished water skier and taught her children this skill as well. She took a part time job at Merle Norman cosmetics, which became her full-time career when the kids were old enough. Later, Sally studied Real estate, became a licensed agent and brokered numerous properties from Texas to Oklahoma.Later in life, Sally became executor of her Aunt Effie's property, which was condemned and in arrears. For the next several years, Sally had the house repaired and all back taxes paid. It became the home in which she lived until her final day. Sally loved her children without exception and was a wonderful mother, fierce protector and mentor to them. Along the way, she met the love of her life, Lester Steger, who she married and happily spent the rest of her life with. The couple could often be observed dancing in the dining room to the musical sounds of Roy Orbison. Throughout Sally's life, her dedication and selfless service to her family was a Hallmark of her warm strength and grace. Sally was a Blessed Child of Christ. If any one of us deserves a place in heaven, Sally will be among them.
