Scotty Kenneth Rigtrup
(1968-2025)
Our dear father, brother and friend, Scotty Rigtrup passed away on April 3rd, 2025.
Scotty was born on September 24th, 1968 and was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was always very active and into sports, baseball when he was younger, football as a teen. His greatest joy was water and snow skiing. Some of his best memories were from his time skiing at Snowbird. He also was a ski instructor in the adaptive sports program. Scotty also served an LDS mission, learning Spanish, which he loved and used frequently.
Scotty attended Rick’s Community College (now known as BYU Idaho) and graduated from Utah State University, dancing his way through his business major. Scotty met and married Melinda and had 3 beautiful children, Isaac, Jonah and Lucas. They enjoyed moving around to experience new locales, settling in Texas.
Scotty enjoyed rough housing with his kids when they were young, jumping on the trampoline, and playing “tripped and flipped” on the king sized bed. He loved coming home and having them run to give him a bear hug.
Scotty loved being on his feet and enjoyed the free swishing feeling. When he moved to Texas, he spent many hours on the water skiing, and later wake surfing. He made so many friends on the lake and taught many how to wake surf. He was extremely happy sharing his knowledge of water sports and boating with his job as a boat salesman at Bay Marine and Marine Max.
Scotty loved music, especially the Mavericks, and enjoyed participating in the live music scene in Austin and around central Texas. He was a fun and creative dance partner (often dancing in flip flops), a joy he learned when he was on the dance team in college. He also loved roller skating and skateboarding in the parking garages in downtown Austin.
Scotty had a magnetic energy and never met a stranger. He was a gifted coach and teacher and was also skilled in working with his hands, remodeling a home and working on many home improvement projects. Scotty was a kind, devoted and accepting friend. He believed in full teeth smiles and chest-to-chest hugs. He always had a joke to break out at the right, or wrong moment, and had an infectious smile and laugh. He radiated gentle and positive energy.
He is survived by his sons, Isaac, Jonah and Lucas; their mother Melinda; his sisters Melissa (Stan) Davis and Jennifer (Jason) Kimball, as well as his brothers Mark (Mily) and Michael (Trudy); and by numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Susanne and Kenneth Rigtrup.
His children will have a private ceremony at the cemetery to lay him to rest. His siblings are planning a celebration of life in Utah and his closest friends are planning a celebration of life in Austin in mid July.
To help ease the burden of funeral expenses for his family, please consider donating to his GoFundMe. The funds will be distributed directly to All Faiths Funeral Services for his cremation and internment at Onion Creek Memorial Park. https://gofund.me/5d30ffb0
