Skippy James Moore peacefully passed on May 18th, 2022. Skippy was born on September 10th, 1952, the only son of eight children from his mother, the late Tommie Moore, and his father, Ruben Moore.
A native Austinite, he was a member of Friendly Will Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. Skippy attended LL Campbell Elementary, Fulmore Middle School, and Travis High School, where he excelled in football. He continued his football career at Tyler Junior College and San Angelo State University, earning an Associate Degree and the opportunity to play in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
At the end of his football career, he returned to Austin, where he would altruistically serve the community at the Montopolis Boys Club and Montopolis Recreation Center for over two decades until he retired from the City of Austin.
As a mentor and coach, he was a beacon of strength and compassion, inspiring all to be their best selves. Skippy had a lasting impact on the lives of everyone he met.
He was a devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, leader, mentor, coach, and friend.
Skippy was preceded in death by his sister Bernice Craig. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Michael Winn, James McWilliams, Ruben Moore, Mondray Moore, his grandchildren, Brishay Winn, MyShell Winn, Mondrae Winn, D'Andre Winn Josh Stills, Quentin McWilliams, Courtney McWilliams, Marley Moore, Florence Moore, Mekhi Moore, Miles Moore, Malik Moore, his father Ruben J. Moore, sisters Joyce Fagan, Willie Mae Burns, Victoria Moore, Gracie Moore, Margaret Moore, Lynette Moore, and a host of family and friends.
