He served 2 tours during the Vietnam War as part of the 1st Aviation Brigade, "The Golden Hawks", and was awarded The Commendation Medal for distinguished service and The Vietnam Combat Certificate. Due to injuries sustained during his deployment in Vietnam, Solomon received an Honorable Discharge from the regular Army on September 19th, 1974.
