Ted Warren Wilson, Feb. 25, 1959 – Nov. 17, 2017

Son of Ruth Nell Delaune Wilson and Charles Vernon Wilson, Ted Warren Wilson of Austin, Texas, was born Feb. 25, 1959, in Colorado Springs, CO. He passed November 17, 2017. Ted is preceded by his father, Charles V. Wilson and his brother Scott Vincent Wilson. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Wilson, of Oro Valley, AZ, and extended family in Greeley, Colorado, and Prairieville, Louisiana.

At the age of 11 years, Ted and his family moved to Houston, Texas. He attended Memorial High School in Houston. Ted earned his B.S. degree in computer science from Stephen F. Austin State University circa mid-1980’s. He then moved to Austin and worked in database administration for the Railroad Commission, Secretary of State, and Department of Transportation (TXDOT) where he retired after 25 years of service in June 2013. In 2009 he was awarded TxDOT’s Hubert Henry Award for outstanding IT professional. Upon retirement, Ted continued working as a database administrator for TxDMV for three years as a contracted employee through Allied Consultants, Inc.

Ted loved his mother, Ruth, like a best friend. He spoke of her always and visited her often in Tucson, Arizona, where she now resides. He loved her cooking and learned some of her Louisiana cooking secrets. He always brought a dish at potlucks – usually a nourishing chili, stew, or soup.

Ted supported his friends and loved ones unconditionally. He had many hobbies and interests including a passion for music, food, and love for the outdoors. He was always prepared with a flashlight, knife, match, raincoat, hat, sunscreen, and truck. A lover of the outdoors he facilitated many beach, kayak, and camping trips. Ted lived his life in service of others helping friends, neighbors, and loved ones on many various projects. He always had the uncanny ability to have the right tool for the right job.

Ted has been practicing Tibetan Buddhism since 2000. He was an active member of Norbu Sam Phel Ling, Dharmata Foundation, and Palri Pema Od Ling. He served on the Board of Directors of Palri Pema Od Ling as Treasurer for 10 years. He was an excellent example of steadiness, calmness, humility and how to act with pure intentions. A true Bodhisattva, he showed tireless service to the dharma and devotion for his teachers. In symmetry with Tibetan Buddhist tradition, prayers for his transition will be said for Ted for 49 days.

In lieu of flowers, Ted’s family has requested that donations be made in Ted’s honor to Palri Pema Od Ling, 605 e. 45th Street, Austin, Texas 78751.
