Theresa J Leal
Theresa J. Leal, 99, of Austin, passed peacefully at her home Thursday, February 8, 2024 surrounded by her family and close family friend.
She was born Theresa Jeanette Stone on August 20, 1924 to parents Peter and Laurida Stone in Killingly Connecticut. She spent her childhood and growing up years in that area. After graduating from high school, in 1945, she joined the U.S. Women’s Army Corps. During her service she was stationed in Pei Ping, China where she met the love of her life, PFC Felix V. Leal of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Felix and Terry were married in Augusta, Georgia on June 5, 1947 and spent a wonderful 67 years together.
In 1949 they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and in 1953, they settled in Austin Texas.
Terry, as she was known, was a wonderful mother and grandmother and great grandmother who was always there when her family needed her. Her family was everything to her, she dedicated her life selflessly, caring for her husband and children.
Terry loved the Lord and her faith was very important to her. She worked side-by-side with her husband in his Optical business for over 40 years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and entertaining for family and friends and in her later years she walked several marathons.
Terry was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Laurida Stone, sister Gertrude Stone, brother Larry Stone, sister Carol Baribeault. Also preceded in death by her husband, Felix Leal and her daughter, Kathy Menges.
She is survived by her son Von Leal and wife Suzannah, daughter Donna D’Abadie, son Bob Leal and wife Pam, son David Leal and wife Debbie, son in law Ronnie Menges, daughter Judi Caiati and husband Vincent. Also survived by granddaughter, raised by Felix and Terry, Jessica Sertuche and husband Rick. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. James Merryman who cared for Terry’s health and wellness for over 30 years and was with Terry at her passing.
A memorial service for Terry will take place at Shoreline Church in Austin, Texas on a later date still to be decided and will be announced soon.
