Travis Scott Ray was born in Austin, Texas on December 29, 1967. On Saturday, June 30, surrounded by those he loved, he peacefully began his journey with the Lord.
Travis spent his lifetime of 44 years here in Austin, graduated from Anderson High School in 1986. He attended ACC, earning two Associates Degrees. In his battle with hepatitis C, he met the woman of his dreams, Connie Ruth Ray, at a support group. They were happily married until she died in 2004.
Working at the Texas Workforce Commission until his death, Travis was surrounded by people he respected and loved. In 2003, Travis went on a spiritual retreat called the Walk to Emmaus where he learned more about the grace and love of God.
Travis is survived by his two children, David Ryan Ray and Megan Ray; his parents Winston and Jackie Depew, and Jim and Katherine Ray; and his "Little Sis" Jackie Hickethier and her family, Jason and Jordan Hickethier, and Gabriel McNulty.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Imtiaz Alam who cared for Travis for 14 years; the University Transplant Center, San Antonio; and the loving, caring staff of doctors and nurses at St. David's Hospital who made his last three weeks a peaceful journey to heaven.
A memorial celebration of Travis' life will be led by Rev. Nancy Reeves at Grace Presbyterian Church, 1705 Gattis School Road, Round Rock, Texas on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10:00am. Donations to the Emmaus Scholarship Fund or to the National Liver Transplant Fund may be sent to Grace Presbyterian Church in memory of Travis Ray.
