Verna Fisher

North Austin Location

Verna Belle Fisher was born April 2, 1942 in Marlin, Texas to Zella Parks Thomas and Hobart Thomas. Her parents moved to Fort Worth in 1944 and when Verna was of age, she attended Como Elementary, Junior High and Senior High Schools. She and her family attended the Lake Como Church of Christ in the Como Community. On occasion she taught Bible classes to the younger children.

In her senior year, Verna was chosen to be a debutante. She was presented to society in December, 1960. After completion of high school she attended Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, Texas to study Business Administration.

In 1962, she married David Jarvis (deceased) with whom she had two children, Vincent and Venita Jarvis. In 1986, she married Eddie Fisher (deceased) with whom she had one child, Kassandra Fisher.
Verna worked for the Texas Worker's Compensation Insurance Facility for 25 years until she retired in 2000. She was named Employee of the Month two times by her peers. After retirement, she said jokingly, that she established the "Grandma's Baby Sitting Services".

Named after her maternal Grandmother, Verna was the eldest of four children born to Hobart and Zella Thomas both deceased. She has one sister, Allice Thomas and had two brothers, both deceased, Hobart and Robert Thomas. Before she went to college she had a summer job as a bus girl in a local restaurant thus beginning a work ethic that would last her entire life. She enjoyed working and providing for her family. At times it was necessary for her to work two jobs while raising her family. That was a testimony to her devotion.

She leaves two children: Vincent (Rose) Jarvis and Kassandra (Jimmy) Ramirez, son-in-law Ray Porter, twelve grandchildren; A.J., Asia, Jeremiah David, and J'Maya Jarvis, Iyanna, John Burns, Jr., and Melody Porter, Zakary O'Connell, Makayla O'Connell, Aryika Fisher, Ruben Ramirez, and Kaitlynn Ramirez; a great grandchild; Raylin Jarvis; six step-children; Otha, Robert, Dwayne, Kevin, Stephanie and Rosa Fisher.

She also leaves; her sister, Allice Thomas, and four nieces: Nicolle Jackson, Nichelle Ragland, Noelle Echevarria and Dana Thomas, and a nephew; Randy Thomas; brothers-in-law Billy Fisher (Joyce) and Donnie Scott (Mary Helen) and many nephews and nieces and friends that she grew up knowing and working with during her lifetime.
