Virgie Pittman

Ms. Virgie Bayne Pittman (Mama) was born June 27, 1937, in Normangee, Texas, in loving union to the late Will Lewis and Robbie Rogers. She moved to Austin, Texas at an early age and attended Austin Public Schools. She later worked at the Piccadilly Café. Virgie was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Leroy Pickens Sr. She later moved to Fort Worth, TX and they had ten children.  Virgie returned back to Austin, TX, where she was later united in marriage to James Pittman; and they had one child, the late Vanessa Marie Pittman.

At an early age, Mama confessed Christ and was baptized at the Church of God in Christ. She received the profound gift of the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues. She was a member of the Church of God and Christ #1 Austin, Texas, under the Pastorship of Pastor Robert A Davis.

Virgie Bayne Pittman was preceded in death by grandmothers Mrs. Penny Rogers and Ms. Virg A. Lewis. Her father, Mr. Will Lewis and her beloved mother, the Ms. Robbie Mae Rogers. Her beloved sister and brother; Mrs. Lela M. Johnson and Mr. Frank Williams. Her beloved daughters; Lela Faye Pickens, Mrs. Brenda P. Elendu, and Vanessa Marie Pittman. Lastly, her Granddaughter, the late Ms. Sophia King and great granddaughter, Brielle P. Carter.

Mama was a strong prayer warrior! She was blessed to be the head of five living generations. She deeply loved her eleven children and would proudly tell others that “55 is my first born”, referencing her eldest daughter, Virgie Lee.  She loved her siblings and all her family! Mama endured many trials, and tribulations of life in general and with raising her children. She remained steadfast and never doubted that God almighty would see she and her babies through. She could have walked away from it all, but she held on to Gods unchanging hand! Mama used to walk the floors praying and speaking in tongue with tears streaming down her face as her children watched. She knew that God was the source of her help!  Mama never left home before speaking the 121 Psalm. We can honestly say! “MAMA PRAYED FOR US.” She was a very outspoken woman and did not mind speaking her peace. One never had to guess where mama stood or what was on her mind.  If something did not sound right to her, she did not hesitate to ask you “WHATS THE DAMN JOKE”. Mama would let a person know in the blink of an eye! “I’M NOT YOUR PLAY TOY.” She was an outstanding cook, loved her music, dancing and not to mention her tobacco AKA “bacca.” Our mother left an everlasting impact on anyone that crossed her path. Virgie Bayne Pittman (Mama) was a strong, protective, and extraordinary woman who was deeply loved by many, and she will be missed beyond measure.

Virgie Bayne Pittman (Mama) leaves to cherish her precious memories eight children: Virgie L. Clement (Leroy) of Austin, TX; Rodella A. Pickens (Basilio) of Austin, TX; Alice D. Pickens (Dalton) of Austin, TX; Yvonne Smith of Austin, TX; Leroy Pickens Jr (Yolanda) of Austin, TX; Earl W. Pickens of Austin, TX; William G. Pickens of Austin, TX; Velma Pickens of Killeen, TX; Two Brothers: Joe Bailey Williams Jr (Gloria) of Austin, TX; Joe Williams (Anna) of Austin, TX. Thirty-six grandchildren; seventy-three great grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, and friends.
