Virginia Mcbee

April 28, 1923 — January 24, 2014

North Austin Location

Virginia was so many things: loyal wife and caregiver to two husbands, beloved mother and wise grandmother, proud great-grandmother, loving sister-in-law, sweet aunt and great-aunt, step mom, considerate friend, true believer and church member wherever she lived. She is survived by sons Tom and Brent, daughter Chaundel, also by grandson Jared and granddaughter Lenora. She was so proud of her great-grandchildren Tayte, Tyler, and Tessa, as well as many nieces and nephews, plus cherished great-nieces and great-nephews. Family was very important to her.

She was a career woman too, as a 2nd LT army nurse in WWII, an accomplished RN, hospital supervisor, and "official family nurse" to all her many relatives. She was an expert shopper and sharp dresser, enthusiastic Bingo player, intelligent thinker and friendly talker. She loved to talk and was also a good listener. She always remembered her old friends and cherished them through the years. Virginia kept her relatives in her thoughts and her friends close to her heart; she engendered love everywhere she went.

Some called her Virginia or Virginia Lee; some called her Ginny, but all loved her. Once you were "in the family" you were in her heart forever. She enjoyed living at Horizon Bay in San Marcos, Texas for her final years and is survived by many new friends there. She loved us all and we loved her in return. We will miss her dearly.

We hope you will be able to join us as we celebrate Virginia's life on April 9, 2014 at 11:00 am, at the Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Her ashes will be interred with her first husband Virgil Thomas Johnson. There will be a short service. Please access the following link for service details and directions: www.greenhillsmemorial.com.

In lieu of flowers, we are requesting donations be made to one of Virginia's favorite charities in her honor. The Foundation Fighting Blindness at www.blindness.org. For more info about ARMD go to www.blindness.org/maculardegeneration
