Brother Wesley Nettles was born on January 18, 1941, to Emma Mae and William Henry Nettles in New Mexico. He was the firstborn to this union of six.
Brother Nettles confessed his belief in Christ and accepted him as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized.
Brother Nettles obtained his formal education in the Austin Independent School District, attending Rosewood Elementary School, Kealing Middle School and Old L.C. Anderson High School.
Brother Nettles had a great life and many exciting endeavors. He moved to San Diego, California in his early twenties. He met and married Shirley and they raised their family there. They relocated to Texas in 1991. Wesley and Shirley were catering entrepreneurs well known around Austin, showcasing their skills with great food and great service.
Brother Nettles joined Greater Swenson Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Tyree King. He was a busy worker. He later joined Rehoboth Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R. A. Hendricks. At Rehoboth, Brother Nettles was a faithful Sunday School attendee. He assisted with cooking, holiday decorating, and other duties. He was a servant of God and worked doing the will of God by taking care of family, neighbors, and all that he could help. When his health failed, Brother Nettles joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church under watch care and the leadership of Pastor B.W. McClendon.
Brother Nettles was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Will Nettles, and his sister, Onetha Dickerson.
Brother Nettles leaves to cherish his memory, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Tracy Tarver, Adrienne Jack, Curtrina Gildon, Emmanuel & Taliah Gildon, Latrice Ellison (Rodney), Devine, Rodney & Roderick Ellison, his siblings Juanita Whetstone-Rivera, Joyce Nettles, and Jimie Nettles, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
