On February 15, 2018 after 73 spirited and memorable years, Willie James Whitley Jr. went home to be with the Father in Heaven.
Willie James was born December 12, 1944 to the late Willie James Whitley Sr. and Georgia M. Smith of Del Valle, Texas. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Cottonwood Baptist Church in Del Valle, Texas.
After attending L.C. Anderson High School, Willie enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 and received an Honorable Discharge. He worked for the City of Austin for 23 years retired in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, pool, barbecuing and traveling to the coast. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren making life long memories.
Willie James was preceded in death by his parents, son Derrick Williams, brother Harold Whitley, and sister Rosie Mae Taylor. He leaves to cherish his memories four daughters, Valorie Robinson of Round Rock, Texas, Michele Stevenson of Dallas, Texas, Colette Williams of Austin, Texas and Latrece (Kawan) Afre of Tampa, Florida; one son Stevie Whitley of Austin Texas; Three brothers Donnell Whitley, Edward Whitley and Carl Whitley of Austin, Texas; Ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services for Willie are scheduled for Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peters United Methodist Church located at 4509 Springdale Road Austin, Texas. The pastor that officiating will be Nathaniel Cook.
Visitation will be from 1-4:00 P.M., Friday February 23rd, 2018 at All Faiths Funeral Home at 8507 N IH 35 Austin Texas 78753.
