James “Jim” Robert Grooms
June 3, 1952 – August 13, 2022
James “Jim” Grooms, life-long evangelist and master carpenter, passed away on August 13, 2022, at the age of 70.
Jim is survived by wife Kathie; son Joshua and wife Christina, and grandchildren Raegan and Grant; son Caleb and wife Lyndee, and grandchildren Levi and Kennedy; daughter-in-law Shanna, and grandchildren Alex and Ashlyn; sister Ruth and husband Paul; sister-in-law Karolyn; niece Samantha; and nephews Kenneth, Joey, Daniel, and Corey. He is predeceased by parents, Ellis and Orpha Grooms; brother Alan Grooms; and son Nathaniel Grooms.
Jim was born to Ellis and Orpha on June 3, 1952, in Billings, Montana. Being raised in Billings, he developed a love for the great outdoors, including hunting and exploring. With the desire to see more, Jim lived on both US coastlines and a few states in between during his lifetime. From Montana to Gillette, WY, Westfield, MA, and then Roseville, CA, he moved to Coeur d'Alene, ID, and back to Billings, MT, then one final stint in Westfield before he ultimately settled down in Elgin, TX.
After graduating high school, Jim joined the Navy, quickly followed by a decision to attend bible school. As his passion for Christ grew, he evangelized across the nation. He ultimately became an ordained minister, pastoring many churches before pursuing his final career as a master craftsman in his trade as a finish carpenter. His other interests involved working on and driving fast cars (especially his Porsche), photography, and animals.
The family plans to celebrate Jim's life with a private memorial service. If you would like to honor Jim and the Grooms family, please add a comment or memory to the Tribute Wall.
